July 19th is Nearly Here

It has been a long time coming, setbacks, cancellations, outright lies and confusion. That has been the nations experience of lockdown and the restrictions that come with it.

Bojo and Co. initially set June 23rd as the day of “national freedom”. But unsurprisingly, it was postponed till the 19th July 2021. A date that felt like a lifetime away at the time, but as I’m typing these words. It is around the corner.

Next week will see the the country loosen restrictions and allow for more people to commune outdoors. Weddings will be allowed an audience of 200+ and face masks will go from mandatory to being “advised”.

Although there is still a way to go before we are entirely free to do what we want, we still have upcoming events and activities to looks forward to this summer (or what’s left of it) and fall.

Unfortunately, the annual Notting Hill Carnival and Glastonbury events have been cancelled for a second consecutive year. However, there will be other ways to unwind and attempt to but the last 18 months behind us.

Most notably, tour date(s) in the UK for Nigerian superstars: Burna Boy and Wizkid. We had another spell of feel-good vibes as the nation watched the England national football team get to the final of EURO2020… we all know how that went, but it’s progress.

We have a lot to be grateful for (especially the ones that have caught the virus and survived it) and many more to look forward to.

I was contemplating coming on a whole different vibe for this post, but after some thought. I decided that it would be best if I broadcasted positivity as opposed to negativity.

A couple more days left till the 19th of July, and maybe, just maybe we can salvage some of summer 2021.
