“This Tory government is a joke”. I’m sure a lot of you can relate to this statement.
We all found the humour in MP’s being caught in 4K having extramarital affairs and holding bums with the same vigour that one would squeeze a brioche roll before eating it. (Squashed brioche bread unlocks its flavour, I stand by it!)
As well as ridiculing MP’s for being outed for having multiple knees ups during previous lockdowns. However, I feel it’s safe to say that the humour in this “joke” of a government isn’t very funny anymore.
With the way things are going, and are set to go in the foreseeable future. The smiles and grins will imminently change to winces and gritted teeth. The energy hike set to be implemented in full by April will see a hike in the prices we all pay for our gas and electricity.
But that’s not the only thing being increased. NI (National Insurance) prices are being increased by 1.25%. At a surface level, it may not seem a lot, but when you realise that NI is currently 12% . This will take the percentage to 13.25 for employees.
At a time when everything else is going through inflation and so many families in the UK are going finding it incredibly difficult to make ends meet. Resulting in seeking help from food banks and applying for universal credit.
This hike in prices couldn’t have come at a worse time. The government are aware of this, but still don’t care enough to do anything about it.
Chancellor of Exchequer, Rishi Sunak. One of the richest MP’s in Parliament, passed a policy exempting bankers from tax payments in the billions (yes, that’s nine 0’s people) While also cutting the benefits of those less fortunate and less equipped to make essential ends meet. Such as having three square meals a day and having heat in their homes during a harsh winter.
It’s alarming, but not at all a surprise how things have fallen apart under the reign of the Tory government. It has been 1 step back and 2 steps further back. Children are going hungry, some parents are resulting in stealing to make ends meet. And all the while, politicians continue to take from the poor to make the rich richer.
There’s no balance and it’s become a survival of the fittest situation where the odds are in the favour of the wealthy and there are no little to no resources for the poor. And as of late, the working class too.
What needs to be done? I’m not sure, but things are going to get worse before they get any better. We need to try and prepare as much as we can for April 2022 and the changes that are to come.
